How The Children’s Academy Came to Be

In January 2002, Christine and Robert Rosnick opened The Children’s Academy in Weirton, WV. Their mission was to provide the Weirton community with an education-based, comprehensive child care center for children aged six weeks old through approximately 12 years old. The Children’s Academy expanded its overwhelming success with the opening of our Steubenville/Wintersville facility in November 2011. The Children’s Academy continues its distinguished reputation as an established child care center in the Ohio Valley region that is respected for its longevity and quality services.

We Are the Best of the Best!

The Children’s Academy continues to receive positive recognition throughout our local and state communities for our commitment to quality care and education. We have been awarded community “Best of the Best” accolades from our newspaper and social media outlets for the past 10 years.

We Are Accredited!

The state of West Virginia (WV Stars) and Ohio (Step Up To Quality) offer an annual tiered accreditation rating awarded to early childhood programs that offer an elite level of care and education. Both programs are evaluated based on quality curriculum, assessment, lesson plan development, implementation, and most importantly… the hiring and retention of highly educated and experienced staff. Our West Virginia location has maintained this exemplary rating for over 10 years! The Ohio location has acquired this distinction for over three years!

We Are Safe!

A safe environment is a priority for all of our children, staff, and families! Our locations are equipped with indoor/outdoor cameras in each classroom via live feed for administrators and supervisors. Both buildings currently prohibit entrance to anyone without a scheduled appointment. Children are safely escorted to and from classrooms via familiar teachers and staff. Families select access codes via a keypad security code entry system.

Our Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum is a universal education that has been approved as the premier curriculum for years within the state of West Virginia. It is designed to be inclusive of the NAEYC developmentally approved practices that are mandated by the West Virginia Early Learning Standards Framework. The Creative Curriculum is supplemented with Teaching Strategies Gold, which is a computer-generated curriculum tracking, reporting, record keeping, and assessment tool used to identify developmental delays. This system also tracks and monitors progress.

Frog Street Curriculum

The Frog Street curriculum introduces key learning domains in center-based play. Math and Science is also integrated into weekly lesson plans that promote problem-solving.

This curriculum also partners with the
Conscious Discipline program utilized at The Children’s Academy. Conscious Discipline provides the tools for a strong social-emotional foundation. This is an extremely effective curriculum for our three-year-old preschool classrooms. The Frog Street Curriculum is required to align with WV Creative Curriculum standards as well.

ITERS, ECERS, & SACRS

The above-referenced codes represent specific environment rating scales for infant, toddler, preschool and school-age classrooms within our building. These assessments are used for the purpose of assisting us in selecting and purchasing age-appropriate resources and equipment that will enhance our educational programming. Classroom environments are instrumental in the success of our programs.

The Children’s Academy’s success is attributed to the talented and devoted staff in each of our classrooms. They do not hesitate to seek out and attend relevant training, workshops, and literature that will enhance their teaching performance and success.

All of our staff possess Bachelor and Associate degrees in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Director Accreditation, as well as additional early childhood accreditations via ACDS and annual continuing education mandates. Testimonials

Due to this developmental-focused structure…my daughter started her school-aged journey with a very strong and advanced foundation.

“My daughter has been attending The Children’s Academy since she was three months of age. Each stage, from the infant room to Pre-K, follows a special curriculum focused on educational and developmental goals. Basically, my daughter has been in ‘school’ since before she was mobile. Due to this developmental-focused structure in even their general daycare programming (in addition to their amazing preschool program), my daughter started her school-aged journey with a very strong and advanced foundation. The advantage of having a strong educational foundation became more evident while my daughter started her school-aged journey during the pandemic. With school closures and remote learning transitions, so many parents, including myself, have worried about the implication such has had on our children’s overall education and growth; however, due to the excellent foundation established with The Children’s Academy, my daughter has adjusted well to the inconsistencies brought on by the pandemic that she continues to be very advanced academically and is thriving.”

My children are thriving, and I have The Children's Academy to thank for that.

“While pregnant with my first child, I was very cautious about where I planned to send my daughter to daycare when I returned to work after my maternity leave. I interviewed multiple providers in the area and chose The Children’s Academy. BEST DECISION EVER! The Children’s Academy is not just the daycare provider for my children, but they have become family. The care received is of the highest quality. Plus, they operate on a specialized educational and developmental curriculum from their infant room to their school-aged after-school/summer programs, and a strong foundation is instilled in all participants during all phases of development. My children are thriving, and I have The Children’s Academy to thank for that.”

I couldn't have asked for greater role models to impact my daughter's life.

“You know that you are a part of something special when your eight-year-old daughter has consistently told others since the age of three that she is going to grow up to be a teacher at The Children’s Academy. She has idealized and respected every teacher that has been a part of her daycare journey. The teachers are truly amazing, and I couldn’t have asked for greater role models to impact my daughter’s life.”

The amazing teachers at The Children's Academy have become our family.

“It truly takes a village to raise a child. My husband and I are transplants to the area; therefore, we do not have any family in the local area. We had to rely on daycare for support. The amazing teachers at The Children’s Academy have become our family. They have grown with us during every new phase in our lives, and their support has been tremendous.”

They have become such a valuable and consistent part of our life.

“My family has been involved with The Children’s Academy for over eight years. The teachers have become family. They have seen us through so many of life’s changes/challenges. Their overall support and care is of the highest quality. We actually dread the day that we no longer need their services because they have become such a valuable and consistent part of our life.”

The Children's Academy truly has been a blessing to my family and me.

“I am blessed. I am blessed because I go to work knowing that my children are safe and receiving the best quality care and support possible when not in my direct supervision. The teachers love and provide for my children as if they were their own, and for this, I am grateful to have them on my team. The Children’s Academy truly has been a blessing to my family and me.”

We would 100% recommend The Children’s Academy to any family looking for child care options in our area!

“We have been a part of The Children’s Academy family for the last several years, and they have cared for both of our sons. Our perspective is unique as we utilized both the Wintersville and Weirton facilities. We were instantly comfortable and felt at ease at both locations. The feeling was mutual for our boys. They look forward to going each day and coming home with new stories of friends made, games played, or silly stories to share. The staff has been friendly, kind, and accommodating at every turn, and truly treat and care for our children as their own. It is not uncommon for us to send a message to the school from the app asking for a quick update on the boys, and they are prompt in the response and oftentimes include a picture as well! Something so small made such a difference to us as parents at work when trusting our child’s care with someone else. We would 100% recommend The Children’s Academy to any family looking for child care options in our area!”

”Nana’s” Testimonial

Where do I begin? There are no words to express our heartfelt appreciation for all that The Children’s Academy does for families needing safe, comfortable, and educational services for their children.

I was honored to become a CA family member from 2015 to the present. During the pre-pandemic period, I was permitted to visit my granddaughter often and participate in the children’s educational and community activities. I was truly impressed with the teaching techniques, level of education, and care the children received. With open arms, I was lovingly accepted into the CA family and known as ‘Nana’ for 6-8 children, staff, and administration.

Since my office was within the same area as CA, for several years, we coordinated Halloween walks/visits so the children could show off their costumes and receive ‘goodies’ throughout the entire building. Such a joy to see these young ones with the caregivers enjoying a community event.

My involvement with CA was not only personal but also led to a more professional experience. CA permitted several young people with disabilities to participate in a project my agency provided. These young people who were interested in early childcare were given the opportunity to shadow and learn the proper techniques for caring for children through a professional venue. A few of these consumers went on to be trained in early childcare.

We have been truly blessed to be part of an impressive, professional, caring, and educational culture that permits our children to be safe and thrive in a loving environment.

Thank you, The Children’s Academy!

Yours forever, Nana!

We Value Parents’ Input

Our families are encouraged to share their traditions and cultures with peers, teachers, and classrooms. Family needs and diversity are structured into our lesson planning. We also offer a parent group that meets quarterly to discuss programming, new concepts, and education opportunities. The Children’s Academy office is home to a resource library where families can find resources regarding behavior modification, enhanced literature, collaborating agencies, and services, as well as other relevant information.

Bright Wheel Application

Bright Wheel is a communication tool downloaded on a parent’s cell phone that allows parents and teachers to communicate throughout the day through text, email, or photo sharing. The application permits parents to remain assured of their child’s well-being while they are in our child care facility. Through Brightwheel, parents can also pay invoices, report absences, and schedule changes.
